Bioderma Photoderm AKN Mat Review

A photo of my tube of Bioderma Photoderm AKN Mat taken on my hosta

With all this sunny hot weather we've been having in the UK recently and my new resolution to take better care of my skin (face), I thought I should probably invest in some suncream for my face. I always used to either not use and SPF on my face (ahh!) or just use the body suncream that I have at the time. This never worked out well. I guess because it isn't designed to be put on your face really, it usually firstly made me look all greasy, secondly broke me out and thirdly melted and dripped into my eyes. Not a good feeling!

So I have been trying to decide which one to go for. As with most cosmetics these days there are a ton to choose from. So many different brands, types, SPF's. Ones for oily skin,  combinations, normal, dry. I felt a little overwhelmed. So I turned to the internet and looked for reviews of the few I have whittled it down to. Nearly bought a few of those and then finally decided to try this one.

Bioderma Photoderm AKN Mat - Matifying Fluid SPF30 40ml

RRP: £13.70 at Escentual.com (which is where I got mine)

As I have mentioned before, I have combination skin. with normal (ish) cheeks and an oily T-zone (mainly on my nose). So I wanted one designed to be matte if possible as I usually get oilier as the day progresses, and seeing as I'm planning on using this when I go on holiday to Majorca in September, I'm hoping it will be warm.

I tried this for the first time today. I applied it to my clean face. It took and little bit of effort to rub in, but was better than the swatch on my arm above that just stayed white. It smells nice, like suncream, but very subtle. I hate over perfumed products and this was fine to me so thats a plus. It didn’t sting my face or eyes on application either. Once it had dried after a few minutes you could see that it was definitely matte.

After having this on for the day and being in the garden sunbathing etc, it still looks matte. I thought my face had a slight tackyness to it, but nothing like if you used a normal suncream on your face. So far so good. Oh and my face didn’t burn! I wasn’t in the garden for long, and it wasn’t as hot as it has been but my nose always goes red in the sun. Like, bright red.

Looking forward to the next super sunny day we have to wear this again and get out there!

Do you have a favourite sunscreen for your face?
